Jay Z and Nubian Faces!

Daaaaaaang Jay! I ain't know you was on that York ish.

Master P Leads the Way!!!!

I don't know if any of you have been following the movements of Master P in the last few years, but he is doing his best to heal the wounds that the world and black culture has sustained from negative images that he admits that he helped to create and promote. I remember not to long ago watching the congressional hearing on hip hop (yes, there was a congressional hearing on hip hop and all its ills) and seeing Master P along with David Banner and Micheal Eric Dyson exchange in a dialouge about the importance and influence of hip hop was beyond amazing. David Banner basically upheld the "It's just a song, I gotta feed my Daughter" mantra. Dyson played the safe "It's expression, it's a voice" thing (When will the academy learn to keep it real? and if it is about a creative voice what about the other creative voices in Black America/the world/music?) but good old Master P basically said that now that he is older and has a son, has seen loved ones murdured, and has seen the influence that hip hop has on peoples lives. He see's how his image was traced in hoods world over and he didn't like what he was seeing. He therefore, decided to dedicate his life to Change and the Upliftment of the hood. When the hood is lifted, everyone is lifted. Just like when the hood is down, everyone is down. Master P's latest venture is a cable network called Better Black Television!!! I hope he reaches out to some of the thousands of great positive hip hoppers and media makers to move this forward and makes the people say something more meaningful than UUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!

Ebony/Jet on YouTube

My new favorite YouTube channel. PURE GREATNESS!!!! Watch old interviews of some of the greatest artists of our time! This channel is and inspiration and a gem. Peep Issac Hayes talking about Intuition, Nina Simone speaking on things she regrets in her career (sad, but true), Spike Lee discussing the making of Malcolm X and so much more. I couldn't keep this great channel all to myself, so I want to share it with you...Sadly, they don't allow embedding or else I would have posted hella videos from them already... It's 2008, Google that ish!One Love, Eagle Nebs!

Miriam Makeba Ashe'

"There was a slight error, which I do not think you will mind my calling attention to. It concerns my African name. I would like to spell it correctly for you:

Zenzile Makeba Qgwashu Nguvama Yiketheli Nxgowa Bantana Baloma Xa Ufun Ubaphekeli, Mbiza Yotshawala Sithi Xa Saku Qgiba Ukhutja Sithathe Izitsha Sizi Khabe Singama Lawu Singama Qgwashu Singama Nqamla Nqgithi.

The reason for its length is that every child takes the first name of all his male ancestors. Often following the first name is a descriptive word or two, telling about the character of the person, making the true African name somewhat like a story."

-Miriam Makeba

Thank you Miriam for singing "Malaika, Nakupenda Malaika" and inspiring my mother to name me a name that calls out to the ancestors with each breath!
