TurkeyTronix//Happy Holidays
Gathering at DJ Kiva's house is becoming a holiday tradition. I think this is the third year we've done this. It brought me great joy to cook for my good friends, and the jam session later on in the evening was so much fun that we didn't take many pictures :) But, here's the family photo, taken by Protius, of course...Enjoy this time of year and be thankful for all that you have everyday!

Young Nebs Runs a Marathon//Flashback
Today is the NYC ING Marathon. It's been getting lots of press throughout the city so the buzz is hard to ignore. All the posters and fliers around town took me back to 1999 when I ran the LA City Marathon. I think I was 15 or 16 years old. I trained all year, learned discipline, how to set and achieve goals, lots of other skills that i use quite a bit today...
It took me a long time, but I finished. Jyeah!
All with the help of this fine track that I taped off the radio and kept rewinding in my Walkman till the words got all slowed up and slurred.

This moment...
I like when he does this kind of stuff. Who else does this?
It's kinda ill when they cut to Chris Tucker at the end...
He's like...make a joke, wait, no.
Heavy.

In the studio with Wendell Patrick...Forthcoming
Wendell Patrick is doing these dope short documentary style clips where each artist featured on the project chats about themselves, the man and his music. He came down to my studio in Bushwick from Baltimore. We spent some time talking $hyt about wack rappers, lame producers and wrote a song about it! Ahhh hip hop! How I do love thee! So, you can see a little bit of my $hyt talk on the video below.
This one features the Amazing Ursula Rucker!
Eze Jackson
Saleem
Not sure the exact date of when the project comes out, but I'll be sure to keep you posted!

Gregory Isaacs//Lovers Rock will live forever!
Some of my Faves by the King of Lover's Rock. When I hear Gregory Issacs, I am transported back to my childhood where I me, my brother and dad would take these beautiful drives to the beach, blasting these songs with the windows rolled down. I used to think I was in Jamaica. So sad Gregory is gone from us so soon. Not sure anyone is going to do it like him ever again.

Happy Birthday Nebs!
This past Wednesday, 10-20-10 was my 28th birthday! I was kind of hype! If you wanna know me, you gotta know that I’m a fan of the number 10, and that 10-20-10 was, visually, was a dope day to me because it represents the balance of the Libra(Deep stuff…I know) Anyway, I’m usually not into going out on my birthday, but this year, I was feeling so brand new, that I decided to have a night out with my beloved fiancĂ©, Protius. I told him that I wanted whiskey, German Chocolate cake, and dancing. YUM.
We started off the evening with a champagne toast at home (If you wanna know me, know that I'm a fan of Andre champagne, Moet is Overrated! HA!) followed by the world’s most delicious German chocolate cake from Black Hound Bakery NYC. I love Black Hound, but they don’t have a seating area, so we carried the goods back home from the city.
Then, the one and only DJ Chela was spinning her weekly party at Happy Endings NYC. The music was great (see Cameo and other Funk Gods), folks bought me whiskey ;) and there was even a girl there doing make-up/face paint. Pro and I got made up and danced the night away!
I'm welcoming this new year feeling renewed. Feeling more sure and secure in myself than ever. This year, I will show no remorse and never take no for an answer. This year I'm feeling bold and carefree so get ready for straight shots and curve balls! I'm so excited for what this life has in store for me and I'm looking forward to hitting you with as many details of the journey as possible!

More Work/ More Fun!
Demostina came thru to the studio to paint a picture for the new video :) If you don't know about Demo, find out! She is an amazing painter and emcee from Washington Heights by way of the Dominican Republic. It was truly an honor working with her and watching her work her magic! Thanks Demo, for lending your amazing talent to this project!
Meanwhile on the other end of the studio...
I was doing some test shots for the launch of my little accessory line "GO COSMIC!"
I started making these earrings to perform in because all my other earrings were slapping me in the face during shows *no bueno*. These earrings are sculpted out of water paper and are super light, but still have that Cosmic Glam that I so love! People would ask me about them every time I wore them out. In every town, on every train, plane or bus. So...the business lady in me said hmmmmm....let's see what happens if we slang these joints! For 1 year, I sold them in a little boutique in Brooklyn called Not Just Vintage and before you know it, I'm seeing ladies walking down the street in my earrings (and earning a little extra $) Now, to reach demand, I will be opening an online store in the coming weeks *yay* hence the need/excuse for me to take hella pics!
I played around with the "Polaroid"...
Lots of work and work in progress! I'm loving life and all that I do! I hope you feel the same! Until next time! GO COSMIC!!!

Nebs + Beyond Race Magazine
Check out my dope feature in this months issue of Beyond Race Magazine. The article includes myself and other rising women hip hop artists such as likwid, Bless Roxwell and DJ Chela! go to your local newsstand and pick one up today! It's always great to get hard copy press in these days when blogs rule! Sadly, my scanner is from the earlier part of the century and has a hard time picking up details. Is it just a little hard to read, or completely impossible?

Hip Hop Burlesque Style!
So, tonight i'll be doing a short set with the lovely ladies of Brown Girls Burlesque!
It should be quite dope!
Brown Girls Burlesque (BGB) is a company of women of color dedicated to creating their own reflection in the art form of burlesque.
BGB takes their right place on the stage to celebrate their cultures and their sexuality with fierceness, artistry and humour.
Brown = All women of color = All self-identified women of African / Black/ Caribbean, Arab, Asian & Pacific Islander, Latina/o, and Native/Indigenous descent.

Eagle Nebs + Jay Electronica
So, I go on assignment for CentricTV to interview Jay Electronica. On my way there, I get HELLA lost...I'm strolling through the Red Hook projects with my full paycheck, that I had just cashed (super smart, I know), cats are looking at me like "I know she ain't from here..." and i'm thinking to myself that I just want to go home. Forget it all...but you know, Nebs ain't never been a quitter, so I keep trucking and I finally get there! I'm drenched in sweat and rain and hop right into the interview.
Sub Centric//Eagle Nebula chats with Jay Electronica from Centric TV on Vimeo.
It went pretty well. I've gotta say, Mr. Elec is waaaaaay more approachable and kind than a lot of rappers, new or legendary that I have met in the last few years. And he takes this personanble approach to whole new levels 1. he give's his BBM out on Twitter (even I am not willing to do that) and 2. At all his shows, he gives a few emcees a chance to share the stage with them!
So, he calls out to the crowd "Where the Emcees At?" Now you know, I wasn't trying to go up there at first, but everyone around me starts pointing at me saying "Her, Her! Get Nebs up there!" So before I can decide, the stage manager is escorting me on stage. Then, something magical happened. Watch for yourself!

SWV
On Sunday night, I had the pleasure of interviewing SWV at BB Kings for CoCo's 40th birthday celebration for CentricTv.com. I was also on assignment as their personal photographer for the night. I've gotta say that being around these women, hearing them sing the songs I grew up singing made me realize how important they must be to anyone who grew up listening to RnB and hip hop in the 90's. They had a track with Wu-Tang before it was "the thing to do" and let us all know why three part harmony was so beautiful! Plus, when the performed the "Anything" remix, they knew, and shouted every WU verse at the top of their lungs!
*This is a self portrait of me, LeLe, the awards they were presented with and CoCo's B-day cake*
I've gotta say that in working with Centric these past few months, and therefore, being more aware of the mainstream than I would even like to admit, I can't help but notice that today, there are very few singers in the mainstream that are darker than a brown paper bag. The women of SWV are undeniably black and beautiful! They have the energy of your best homegirl that you grew up with or your favorite auntie! Here are some pics from the night! Enjoy the interview too! I've got to admit, it wasn't my tightest interview, but it's SWV, so you should enjoy it anyway!
